The Big Bloggy Move

I’m going to be taking my blog to a self-hosted site in the next couple of months. It will have a new name and an awesome design. I’m very impressed with this design firm, and I have the utmost confidence in them.
Of course, I’m also very nervous because I’ve never done this before. I’m trying to think of what to include, what annoys me about other blogs, etc. You know, all those little details that make a site function well and feel welcoming. I’m trying to be forward thinking so I’m not constantly tinkering with the site.
Since you’re all (obviously) blog readers, I thought I would solicit your opinions.
What do you like in a blog? What don’t you like? What are some of your favorite sites and why?
Hmmm.. I like peaking into a person’s life. Which is weird because I don’t really reveal a lot about my own life on my blog. I use it as more of an author informational thing - reviews, signings, and stuff. Why do I do this? Probably because my dad is a police officer and I’ve been taught to never reveal too much because of stalkers, murderers, and abductors out there.

I mainly read because of the blog author. You either like them or you don’t so topic really isn’t that big a deal to me. Though I’ll admit to liking a variety of different things. The same old, same gets old.

Good luck with the move. No real advice. Just please let us know how it goes so that we can learn from you. I just ask that you keep the navigation simple for us dingbats! Good luck. I can’t wait to see it. Please keep us updated.
Keep it simple. Keep it entertaining. Keep it informative. Keep it fun. I like what you have here.

The one thing that annoys me the most is music. Do NOT force me to listen to music of your choice. Not that you personally would, but I mean “you” in general. *g* But there’s very little that will make me leave a website so fast it would make your head spin than music I can’t turn off. And I’m not fond of being forced to download video files either, come to think of it. Give me a choice!
Ahem. Not that I have any strong feelings on the matter or anything. LOL!

Keri: I grew up with a lawyer. I always worry about being sued.
Kwana: Simple Navigation is a MUST. I hate sites where I can’t seem to find my way around. Or really jumbled sidebars. Those irritate no end.
Dru: Thanks! The nature of the content won’t change, but since I rarely talk about writing (because the number of people interested in what I have to say about writing hovers somewhere around 12), and spend more time talking about other things, the new blog site will reflect that.
Tori: No worries. No flashes, no music (really, you don’t want to listen to big band music?) Oh, NO VIDEOS, unless they’re in a blog post. I’m adamant on stuff like that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Big Band music, but I’d still rather have a choice about listening to it. *g*
