How Much Fun Can You Have With A Vacuum?
May 6, 2008 by Amy
Recently, our 17 year old Kirby Vac died. It was very sad. The Kirby was probably the most reliable mechanical thing in the house. We never had to take it in for repairs. The most maintenance we ever did was cleaning out the brushes, changing the bag and replacing the belt. That thing was a machine. However, a few weeks ago, whenever we turned it on, there was this awful burning smell. I was a bit concerned. You know, fire is bad (unless it’s in a fireplace or a barbecue). Although the firemen are hunky, I didn’t want them coming to my house ever again. So, we decided to get a new vacuum. This is a pretty mundane purchase. A necessity, even.
I’m pretty sure 9 thought it was Christmas (after all, we had snow a few days before so I can understand the confusion).
First, he examined all the pieces meticulously.

Then, he gave it a test run by vacuuming the hall,

and his bedroom,

and even those hard to reach spots, like under the bed.

Then, he even tested the easy-release for debris disposal.

And as though all that vacuuming did not provide a full day of fun, when all is said and done, there’s always the box.

(BTW, that was, indeed, four shirt changes in one day—though technically #4 is into pj’s)
Love it!
BTW - You’ve been tagged!
Looks like you got a Dyson. I LURVE my Dyson…. and, yes, DD has almost as much fun as your kidlet!
LOL at how 9 fits in the box. Too cute.
Now that you know everything is okay with the workings of the vacuum, enjoy your new purchase.
I hope today is a good day.
Yay for new vacumms! We kill them on a regular basis. *g* Wow! You had a male person vacumm! And what is it with kids and changing 3 or 4 times a day?
Enjoy your day!
The Dysons do look like they maneuver better. I wonder how long it will take for the novelty of vacuuming to wear off for your son. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I love my Dyson!
Enjoy the new vacuum. Looks like your youngest is having a blast!
On the subway, this evening, sat two women with their Dyson vacuum cleaner. Too funny.
Marianne & Melissa: yes, it is a Dyson. We’d been thinking about it for a few years, but the Kirby was still plugging along. But then, you know, the burning smell. I love the Dyson. I think I might by a second one down the road for upstairs (one of the smaller ones) so I don’t have to haul the new one up and down the stairs. It might move easier than the Kirby, but it doesn’t weigh any less.
Brandy: I have a friend who burns through vacuums like they’re matches. We home school co-opped one year and one day, while vacuuming my “classroom”, the vac caught on fire. She just shrugged, threw it onto the pile for the dump run and pulled another one out of the closet. I think she bought them by the gross. As far as the clothing changes? I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure out why he won’t remove his pajamas before putting on his day clothes. ::boggle::
Dru: On the subway? They must have been really strong. The full-sized Dysons are HEAVY. 9 loves big boxes. Really. We bought him something last Christmas that he’d wanted for ages and after opening it, guess what he played with? Yup, the box.
Edie: It’s been over a week. He’s still enjoying it. He even volunteered to do the stairs. I will milk this as long as I can.
