123 Meme
May 7, 2008 by Amy
I’ve been working on a synopsis. 13 has been home sick for two days, and sick teenage boys are…well, they’re really like sick miniature men, aren’t they?
Brain…fried.
Good thing Keri tagged me or this space would be blank.
Here are the rules:
- Pick up the nearest book.
- Open to page 123.
- Find the fifth sentence.
- Post the next three sentences.
- Tag five people and post a comment to the person who tagged you once you posted your three sentences.
The nearest book didn’t have 123 pages (Adventures with Atoms & Molecules–a chemistry experiment book—only has 82 pages), so I wandered to the table for a book I’m currently reading. Secret Lives of the US Presidents, by Cormac O’Brien. So, page 123, sentences 6-8 are:
Arthur was the first president to employ a full-time valet, and for good reason–he is rumored to have owned as many as eighty pairs of pants. His presidency was remarkable for its social events, fine dining, and little else (with the notable exception of ominous legislation that sought to limit Chinese immigration). The nattily dressed Arthur liked to eat well almost as much as he liked to buy new duds, and he reigned as the first gentleman of the land.
You know, I just started the book, so now I know there’s definitely something interesting to look forward to.
I always feel weird tagging others, so you can play along if you want. I’d love to hear about what you’re reading right now, though, so if you’ve got a book handy, play along in the comments.
I hope 13 feels better soon and good luck with your synopsis.
page 123, fifth sentence from Unknown Means by Elizabeth Becka
Working waist-deep in dead bo dies every day could make one paranoid, and eager to feel a boundary between the staff and the victims. Us and them - use were alive, them were dead. If one of us crossed the line, others could follow. She shuddered, maybe just because of her fatigue.
Very educational, Amy. I can say I learned something new today. Have a great day!
Eighty pairs of pants, eh? Who would’ve guessed? Now you’ve got me interested in reading that book!
I’m grinning over the posts I’ve just read. Missing days is going to take some getting used to!
Love the vacuum pix, especially the under-the-bed shot. So adorable!
And good news (?) about the girlfriend, I think. Maybe. Who can tell?
I’m looking forward to seeing your new blog…very exciting news, that. I’m completely with the contingent that said they read for the author. I’ve got to like the “feel” of the person to read the blog and want to get to know them better. Oh, and the music thing? I don’t like to hear music, either. Not from a blog. But that doesn’t much matter since I usually have the speakers switched off or the sound muted. So play away!
Hope you enjoyed the pancakes. Have had husbandly conversations like yours. I think it’s called Marriage.
Have a great day!
My nearest book is Home Learning Year by Year by Rebecca Rupp. I think I’ll pass typing in what it says!
Hope your oldest feels better soon!
Dru: I think she was shuddering because of, you know, THE DEAD BODIES. Very nice passage…I’m intrigued.
Melissa: Yeah, thanks for passing. I am not a big Rebecca Rupp fan
. Of course, after all these years we’ve developed a home school rhythm that works very well for us and I know my kids are learning what they need to learn. I’ve finally got the system down (of course, it could change at any moment…
Sarita: yeah, I figured you would understand on the husbandly coversation. I recently went to a site that had music playing and the “off” button was way on the bottom of the page. I was seriously annoyed. The pancakes were DELISH! How are you enjoying your extra time with hubby?
Sorry to hear 13 is sick. And I know what you mean by acting like a man when sick. Ugh.
As for the meme, the only book near me besides my lesson plans is the book I just finished last night. *G*
Have a great day!
BookMom: 13 started feeling better last night and decided to celebrate by picking a fight with 9. We were very glad to drop him off at school this morning.
