Gymnastics, Redux

There are many, many things I do not miss about having competitive gymnasts for children. The long drive, the time, the weird idea my children have that all dinners must be served from Thermoses.
But there are a few things I regret leaving behind. Notably, that heart-stopping, breath-catching moment when your child lets go of the equipment while ten feet off the ground. But you’re not worried, because you know he’s worked for this and he’s ready and he’s capable of catching that bar as though that moment of weightless freedom was nothing.
We didn’t have many pictures of 13 because he only competed one and a half meets (he injured his ankle during the State Meet and didn’t finish), but this is one of my favorite shots. Look closely and you’ll see: he’s not holding onto anything.
For a moment, he could fly.

nice shot of 13. Does he miss it?
I know the feeling. meggy was a competative figure skater for eight years. Sometimes I miss it, other times… I just don’t. But I did love to watch her fly across the ice.

Great pic..
Wow. What a great picture. Andrew plays football–that’s a whole ‘nother feeling altogether, especially when he winds up on the bottom of a dogpile.
That picture is wonderful. My kids haven’t shown ANY interest in organized sports. *sigh* There’s still time I guess.
