This is what 9 built this afternoon as I finished the last of my catching up. It’s a London Bridge K’Nex! I’ve had the song in my head ever since he decided which bridge he wanted to build.
A quiet day, for the most part. Rainy. Bleary. Bleah. Got the kids signed up for all their summer sports, except one series of golf lessons. I have to go to the pro-shop itself to sign up for the Junior Series and I just didn’t feel like going out in the rain. Also got myself signed up for a July series of lessons for beginning women golfers. I’ll miss the last one because of RWA SanFran, but that’s okay. At least I get three lessons!
Did an hour of yoga tonight. It was a video, but it was the beginner one. Yikes! I must be really out of shape. I knew I wasn’t flexible in my shoulders or back anymore, but i-chee-wawa did I struggle through some of those poses, especially the twisting ones. Holy tamoly. When you were supposed to be looking at the back of the room, I was looking to the side. But I did it. I did the best I could, I kept my cool, I didn’t get frustrated. I was sweaty and tired at the end, but I felt good. I’m so proud of me!
I’m definitely going to our one-stop shopping place and get a better mat. I used one of the camping mats, but it wasn’t nearly long, nor wide, enough. And it was dirty. Dusty. Ick. But I couldn’t practice on the carpet, my feet slipped. So a new mat it is.
I’m thinking of sticking with this episode until I’m more comfortable (that’s my little hyper-retentive heart…need to master something before moving on), but I’m not sure if that’s the way to go. I think I’ll also make a point to get to the yoga studio in town next week to work with a real, live person.
I know some of you who read this blog practice yoga, so I have a question for you: Should I stick with this episode until I’m more comfortable with the poses, or should I try other episodes and other poses and just trust that facility will come?
What a cool bridge!
REgarding the yoga, do both. Stick with that episode, doing it a few times per week, until you’re comfortable, because you want to build confidence on a physical level as well as a psychological one.
But also mix it up with short sessions of other poses.
I have two suggestions for you:
The book YOGA BLISS by Tara Fraser. It’s clear, well-written, and the poses help you ease into your practice. I mix and match them into my other routines.
Also the Yoga Journal site has great videos and explanations and sequences, so if you’re not sure if your alignment is correct in your episode work, or you want to try something else or check something, you can cross-check yourself there.
Because it’s hard to unlearn a pose learned incorrectly (she says from experience).
I’ve been meaning to do yoga for ages. In fact, I was so serious about it, I pre-paid some classes, and never made it! So kudos to you for getting on the mat!
LOVE the London Bridge!
See you in SF!
I love his London Bridge.
Good luck with your yoga session. I tried it once and hurt all over. Perhaps once the new Y building is completed, I’ll take a class.
I am impressed with 9’s London Bridge!
As for Yoga, I agree with Devon. Your confidence will imporve the more you do the video, but try and mix it up a bit so that you don’t feel stale and bored. Giam has lovely mat’s. *G* (I WISH. I bought mine at Marshall’s. *G*)
Also, iTunes has Yoga practices.
I’m so proud of you for trying it! WTG!
Have a good day! And could you send some of that rain here?
Doing anything after you haven’t done it in a while is hard, but the next time you do yoga, it will be so much easier. After your muscles stop hurting!
Well done, it can be hardest to just begin and you did it. My suggestion is to keep doing that workout along with another one or two just to keep it interesting.
One of the reasons people lost motivation is boredom, so avoid that and just keep going, it will get easier, I promise.
