Friday night was spent eating too much, laughing too much and lighting things on fire. First, of course, was the traveling. The boys needed to keep up their strength for the long night ahead.

Once we got there, it was visiting with family and eating lots of food. Doesn’t that potato salad look good?

After dinner was an early birthday celebration for 13. He got to choose his cake. Lucky for me, he chose my favorite: Lemon Jello Cake.

But once the sun set, it was time for fireworks. Sparklers were the hit of the evening.
First, 9 ran with his sparkler.

Then Husband got into the act with two sparklers.

9 & 13 had to join in, of course.

Then it was time to light the bigger fireworks. There was a lot of running once something was lit.

Clearly, I’ve taught my children an appropriate appreciation for the dangers of fire. On the way home, we got to watch several up-in-the-sky fireworks displays, no crowds, no muss, no fuss. No traffic. A good time was had by all.
And the next day, I had this for lunch. Because there was no one around to stop me.

Leftovers ROCK!
Lots of fun, lots of food and fireworks, lots of smiles. It looks like you had a great holiday! Thanks for sharing it.
And I love the “beach” photos! So much fun!
Look at all the fun the boys were having with the sparklers.
The food looks delicious and I find that potatoe salad taste better the next day.
I hope your Sunday is pleasant.
Yum … potato salad is the best.
Great pics and lots of fun. I’d never heard of lemon jello cake before, and just googled it. I’ll have to try it sometime.
I loved sparklers when I was the boys’ ages! Sounds like a very fun day.
And the next day, I had this for lunch. Because there was no one around to stop me.
Whole weekend of no one around for me. Writing. Sleeping when I want. Sticking to my low carb thing anyway…
I had 10 years on my own between husband #1 and husband #2, and another nearly 3 years before we hatched Theater Boy. I *miss* the quietness of those days. Yet I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
After looking at your pictures I pulled a package of hot dogs from the freezer for dinner. Thanks for that inspiration! I’m always angsting on what to make for the old man.
P.S. Post the Jello Cake recipe, or am I gonna have to Google for it?
Kath: I’ll post the recipe this week. Hmmm, guess I’ll have to make one so I can get good pictures. Oh, darn.
Ooh, the Jello cake sounds yummy! Bet my Hubs would like that! *G* And hey, if he didn’t…….more for me and the kids. (Like I need it! *G*)
Good job on the kids have a healthy respect for the fireworks.
What’s wrong with leftovers? *G*
Have a relaxing day!
Your 4th of July plate looked amazingly like mine, except I had grilled zucchini and peppers instead of three bean salad. D and I agree that your DH’s potato salad absolutely rocks!!!
